This week I chose:
"Juliet Immortal"
by Stacey Jay
Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Release Date: Sep 13, 2011
The following description is from goodreads.com:
"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume."
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
The most tragic love story in history . . .
Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.
You all know I'm into the retellings! And "Romeo and Juliet" is one of my all time favorite stories!
What are you waiting for this week???
Wow! I don't know if I can imagine such a twist in literary history! Romeo and Juliet are so embedded in our culture that they're practically historical. I'm intrigued though. Great pick!

Whoa. Whoa! Talk about a twist on the original! Adding this to my TBR like...imediately. haha I've never liked Shakespeare's version of this, so I'm all about making Romeo the villian. :)

ReplyDeleteOooo! I hadn't heard of this one yet, but this looks amazing! Definitely adding it to my list. :) R&J was never my favorite Shakespearian play, but I love this twist on the story.
ReplyDeleteThis has been on my list too - the idea that she was murdered by Romeo is intriquing and I want to see where it goes from that.
