"Hometown Love: A Bliss Bundle"
by Rachel Harris, Ophelia London, and Kelley Vitollo
Publisher: Bliss

Release Date: May 27, 2014

Summary from the publisher:

Three novels that prove love can always be found right at home

There’s nothing quite like the comfort and serenity of returning home again, especially when combined with the sizzle and excitement of finding true love. This limited-edition contemporary romance boxed set from Entangled’s Bliss line features three fun and flirty small-town stories sure to make you laugh, sigh, and smile long after you’ve turned the last page.

Taste the Heat by Rachel Harris: Colby Robicheaux knows her brother’s best friend—delectable fire captain Jason Landry—is off-limits, and anyway, she’s only back home for a short time. Jason’s looking for someone to help him raise his preteen daughter, not a fling, but Colby’s all grown up and tempting as ever.

Playing at Love by Ophelia London: When Tess Johansson’s music program gets pitted against Jack Marshall’s football program in a battle for funding, she knows only one of them can win. Jack might be the summer love she never forgot, but her job means everything to her. Competing against the enemy was never quite this much fun.

Lucky Break by Kelley Vitollo: Sydney Williams might have come home to her small town of Shamrock Falls, but it’ll take more than that to rekindle a broken friendship with her childhood best friend, Kade Mitchell. When friendship turns to sparks turns to more, will Kade be able to convince his best friend to gamble on forever?

Giveaway: "Remember the Time"

"Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days"
By Bill Whitfield and Jason Beard with Tanner Colby
Publisher: Weinstein Books

Release Date: June 3, 2013

Summary from goodreads:

Hounded by the tabloid media, driven from his self-made sanctuary at Neverland, Michael Jackson spent his final years moving from city to city, living with his three children in virtual seclusion—a futile attempt to escape a world that wouldn’t leave him alone. During that time, two men served as the singer’s personal security team: Bill Whitfield, a former cop and veteran of the security profession, and Javon Beard, a brash, untested rookie, both single fathers themselves.

Stationed at his side nearly 24/7, their job was to see and hear everything that transpired, and to keep everyone else out, making them the only two men who know what 60 million fans around the world still want to know: What really happened to the King of Pop?

Driven by a desire to show the world who Michael Jackson truly was, Whitfield and Beard have produced the only definitive, first-person account of Michael Jackson’s last years: the extreme measures necessary to protect Jackson and his family, the simple moments of happiness they managed to share in a time of great stress, the special relationship Jackson shared with his fans, and the tragic events that culminated in the singer’s ill-fated comeback, This Is It. The truth is far more compelling than anything you’ve yet heard.

An indispensable piece of pop-culture history, Remember the Time is the story of a man struggling to live a normal life under extraordinary circumstances, the story of a father fighting to protect and provide for his children. Remember the Time is the book that dismantles the tabloid myths once and for all to give Michael Jackson back his humanity.

Captain Garret Reed of the Nighthawk guard has a deadly mission: capture a steel-jawed monster preying on women. He hates to put his partner, Perry, in jeopardy, but she’s the best bait he has. Little does he realize, he’s about to be caught in his own trap.

Perry has been half in love with Garrett for years, but this is not exactly the best time to start a relationship—especially when their investigation leads them directly into the clutches of the madman she thought she’d escaped...

I LOVE this series! I feel like I have been waiting ages for this one. Finally, Garret and Perry get their own story!

"Exquisite Captive"
by Heather Demetrios
Balzer & Bray
Release Date:  Oct 7, 2014

Forced to obey her master.
Compelled to help her enemy.
Determined to free herself.

Nalia is a jinni of tremendous ancient power, the only survivor of a coup that killed nearly everyone she loved. Stuffed into a bottle and sold by a slave trader, she’s now in hiding on the dark caravan, the lucrative jinni slave trade between Arjinna and Earth, where jinn are forced to grant wishes and obey their human masters’ every command. She’d give almost anything to be free of the golden shackles that bind her to Malek, her handsome, cruel master, and his lavish Hollywood lifestyle.

Enter Raif, the enigmatic leader of Arjinna’s revolution and Nalia’s sworn enemy. He promises to free Nalia from her master so that she can return to her ravaged homeland and free her imprisoned brother—all for an unbearably high price. Nalia’s not sure she can trust him, but Raif’s her only hope of escape. With her enemies on the hunt, Earth has become more perilous than ever for Nalia. There’s just one catch: for Raif’s unbinding magic to work, Nalia must gain possession of her bottle…and convince the dangerously persuasive Malek that she truly loves him. Battling a dark past and harboring a terrible secret, Nalia soon realizes her freedom may come at a price too terrible to pay: but how far is she willing to go for it?

Inspired by Arabian Nights, EXQUISITE CAPTIVE brings to life a deliciously seductive world where a wish can be a curse and shadows are sometimes safer than the light.

This is the second jinni/genie book I've seen lately, and I'm so excited! Sounds like a such a new kind of fairy tale!

DVD Review: "When Calls the Heart-Lost & Found"

"When Calls the Heart - Lost & Found"

DVD Review
Word Entertainment

Release Date: Feb 25, 2014
Source: DVD sent by publicist in exchange for an honest review

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

About the DVD: (from the publicist)

“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion.  The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

My Review:

I'll admit it, I'm a Heartie. Yes, fans of this show have their own nickname and call themselves Hearties. You might remember my review of the movie pilot for this show. This DVD contains the first two episodes of the television series. I admit that was bewildered at the start of the first episode of the show, because I felt like a lot changed from the movie that I loved. But I quickly grew to love Elizabeth and Jack and their story and I've decided to look at the movie and the tv show as completely separate, and I love both versions.

This show reminds me so much of one of my favorite tv shows, "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman." It's such a quality, feel-good family show. The setting of the western frontier has always been one of my favorites. I love that we really get to know all of the different citizens of the community as well as the main characters.

In these two episodes, we meet Elizabeth, a wealthy young woman who comes to Coal Valley to take the town teaching position. She is shocked to learn that there is no schoolhouse, so she will be teaching the children in the saloon. Most of the women in town are skeptical of the newcomer, except for Abigail, who is kind and even invites Elizabeth to stay in her own home after a series of mishaps. Abigail becomes a friend and even mentor to Elizabeth, and their friendship is great to watch.

Jack is the Canadian Mountie assigned to be Coal Valley's constable. He thinks that Coal Valley doesn't need a constable and he was only sent there on a mission from Elizabeth's wealthy father in order to protect her. At first, Jack is a bit standoffish, but soon he becomes a very likable character and he is very soft hearted under that prickly exterior. Elizabeth and Jack have a fantastic chemistry together, and you can't help but root for them to be together, and swoon over every tiny spark between them. I can't wait to see where their romance goes!

Bottom Line: This DVD is the first two episodes of a wonderful, good-hearted tv show and the introduction to the fantastic characters who have found their way into my heart. After watching this DVD, you will be waiting with baited breath for the rest of the series.
