Waiting on Wednesday 254

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and it is a way to show off the books you can't wait to be released!!

This week I chose:

"The Stepsister's Tale"
by Tracy Barrett
Harlequin Teen
Release Date:  June 24, 2014

What really happened after the clock struck midnight?

Jane Montjoy is tired of being a lady. She's tired of pretending to live up to the standards of her mother's noble family-especially now that the family's wealth is gone and their stately mansion has fallen to ruin. It's hard enough that she must tend to the animals and find a way to feed her mother and her little sister each day. Jane's burden only gets worse after her mother returns from a trip to town with a new stepfather and stepsister in tow. Despite the family's struggle to prepare for the long winter ahead, Jane's stepfather remains determined to give his beautiful but spoiled child her every desire.

When her stepfather suddenly dies, leaving nothing but debts and a bereaved daughter behind, it seems to Jane that her family is destined for eternal unhappiness. But a mysterious boy from the woods and an invitation to a royal ball are certain to change her fate...

From the handsome prince to the evil stepsister, nothing is quite as it seems in Tracy Barrett's stunning retelling of the classic Cinderella tale.

I love fairy tale retellings, and a book from one of the stepsister's point of view is so intriguing!! I really liked Gregory Maguire's "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" and the movie based on it. This one reminds me of that, so I definitely want to check it out!

What are you waiting for this week???

  1. Love it! It's Cinderella with a twist. Is this historical?

  2. Beth, good question!! I think so, although it doesn't outright say it's historical. I'm just judging from the costumes on the cover and the "lady" and "noble" mentioned in the summary.

  3. OOh nice pick! Saw this one on Netgalley and debated about requesting it. Love a good fairy tale retelling with a twist!

    Here's my WoW

  5. I am not usually the biggest fan of retellings, but this one sounds really good. Thanks for sharing, hope you enjoy it!

  6. Nice! I love when they do fairy tales from another POV!!

  7. I got this one from Netgalley, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings too.

  8. I love the idea of a retelling from another POV. SO FUN! I will definitely be checking this one out. Great pick!

  9. I want to read this book too. I love fairy tale retellings, especially when they put a new spin on it.
