In My Mailbox (18)

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren, and is a way for everyone to show their new books for the week, including those bought, swapped, won, or received for review.

"The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks

I won this from Kristina at The Cajun Book Lady, the book was sent by Grand Central Publishing. I was so excited to win this one!! I've been waiting to read this book since it came out and now I can just in time for the movie release! Thank you!!

Glee Volume 1 CD

I won this from Alyssa, Jake, and Gregory at Teens Read and Write!! The cd is awesome, I love the songs and this show! I can't wait for the new "season" to start in April. Thanks so much!!

There's been a lot of debate around the blogosphere this week about IMM, do you feel like it's a good post?? I really think IMM is a great way to give a shout out to the awesome bloggers who have sponsored contests that I have won. Hopefully I can give their blog some traffic through my post, just as another way of saying "Thank you!" I also think it's a way to give exposure to a book that a publisher has sent for review. After all, that's why they send us books, right? To get exposure? Of course I'm still going to write a review when I'm finished, but a lot of times the IMM posts get more traffic than a review post. What do you think about IMM???

I've seen the previews for The Last Song and it looks like such a sweet love story.

I got in the Nantucket Books by Denise Hunter, Michal by Jill Eileen Smith, and two out of the three books in The Auralia Thread Series. The third is on the way. :o)

I also downloaded the PC app for the Kindle so I can read some of the books they offer for free or reduced prices (I know - but one takes advantage of what you can during this economy). I got a few classics and then some romances as well. There was Love at Stake #1 - The Dutiful Rake and a couple others I can't remember. I'm not sure how good they'll be, but I thought I may as well try them.

I have The Last Song I need to read it soon so I can compare that movie and book. A lot of people are mad because he wrote it for Miley but hey if its a good story who cares just my opinion. I love the IMM post because I like to know what other people get again just my opinion.

congrats on the loot!

Book Monster, I love Glee too! I hope I can finish the Last Song before I see the movie.

Lee, it sounds like you got some good romances for free on Kindle!! I don't have an e-reader b/c I still like having the book in my hand. Enjoy your books!!

Caitlin, I want to compare the book and the movie too. I agree, it doesn't matter to me if he wrote the movie for Miley or not. I like IMM too!! I just want to get others' feedback and hear what you all think!

Thanks, Emma!!

I have seen the album of Glee around some blogs, but really who are they? I live in the Netherlands and never heard of them. Maybe I can find a clip of them on youtube. :)

Corrine said...

I love the Glee soundtracks too! I've got both of them and listen to them all of the time (it's sad how much I listen to them lol).

I like Nicholas Sparks too, but didn't realize he had this one out until I saw the huge front end display over at Coles a couple weeks ago. I hope you enjoy the book, movie, and cd! :)

Glee is such a fun show. I am really looking forward to the new episodes. Congratulations on winning the CD! I hope you enjoy listening to it and reading The Last Song.

I like the IMM meme because it is a great way to hear about new books and to visit new blogs that I'm unfamiliar with.

Juju at Tales of Whimsy.com said...

I'm not a fan of IMM. But I LOVE your blog so I visit anything you do :)

Last Song sounds gooood!

Juju at Tales of Whimsy.com said...

Question: Where is the IMM debate going on? I want to chirp in ;)

Kris (Voracious YAppetite) said...

Hey there Carrie! I keep meaning to borrow The Last Song from the library. I want to see the movie, too! I second Juju's question: where is the IMM debate?? Enjoy your book and your lovely Glee CD!

Carrie at In the Hammock Blog said...

Darlyn, Me too!! Let me know what you think of it!

LovesSam: Miley is in the movie, Caitlin just mentioned that he actually wrote the story for Miley!!

Maria, Let me know what you think of the Last Song!

Sarah, that's good to hear that it was your favorite!!

Nina, Glee is a tv show, the students are in a show choir, so every week they sing a few cover songs. The cd is a compilation of the songs-I'm sure you can find a clip or two online!

Corrine, the Last Song came out in hardback a while ago, but just now came out in paperback to coincide with the movie :)

Carrie at In the Hammock Blog said...

Fredamans, which NS book? I've only read a few of his.

Serpentine Librarian, isn't glee awesome!!

Christina, you're so right about the IMM as a way to visit new blogs. Thanks for sharing your opinion, I've been wanting to know what others think!!

Juju, Awww, thanks, that's so sweet!! Why exactly do you dislike IMM, I'm totally open to other opinions, I'm trying to figure out what people do and do not like about it :) The original post that started me thinking about IMM was here: http://www.thebookette.co.uk/2010/03/honesty-what-im-feeling-about-book.html
I don't know that the Bookette herself really meant anything bad about IMM but a lot of the comments discuss it. Check it out, there are some interesting points.

Kris, I hope you like the Last Song too!! I put the link above :) Check it out!!

I can't wait to hear your review of Last song

Juju at Tales of Whimsy.com said...

Hey doll! I'm back to answer your question, "Why exactly do you dislike IMM?"

Hummmm *scratching chin* I guess I'm not really all that interested in knowing what people have until they are ready to give me a snippet, excerpt, teaser, review, or feedback about the book. Does that make sense?

To see titles I can visit my local book shop or browse Amazon. I follow blogs 'cause I want to know what the people I like (with opinions I have come to trust) think of the books. Or to give me sneak peeks.

I rarely read IMM's anymore. The only ones I read are from those people who I love their blogs and/or their voices.

I don't even like vlogs much. I think the only vlog I look forward to is Book Soulmates. And that's because they're so cute, funny, and they have great banter/dynamic.

I hope that answers your question.
I do LOVE your blog and just about everything you do. I think you have a fantastic voice.

Carrie at In the Hammock Blog said...

Thanks, Cleverly Inked! I'm hoping to read it this week :)

Thanks so much for your input, Juju!! I can totally understand where you are coming from with everything you said. And I'm glad to hear another side to the IMM story! Thank you so much for the compliment, I really appreciate it :) I love your blog too! I have only been to book soulmates a couple of times, I will have to go back and check out their vlogs.

Here's a question: Do you think you would get more out of IMM if there were a teaser or excerpt included? I try not to list more than 3 books a week so maybe I could include something else. Thanks for your input!!
